Jyotirlingas of Bharat

12 Jyotirlinga

The 12 Jyotirlingas are revered sacred shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva, spread across different parts of India. Each Jyotirlinga is believed to be a manifestation of Shiva’s infinite energy, symbolizing his presence as a pillar of light. These temples, including famous ones like Somnath in Gujarat, Kashi Vishwanath in Varanasi, and Rameshwaram in Tamil Nadu, are considered highly auspicious pilgrimage sites for devotees. Visiting these shrines is believed to bring spiritual merit, blessings, and liberation from the cycle of rebirth. Each Jyotirlinga has its own unique legend and significance in Hindu mythology.

Somnath

The First Adi Jyotirlinga Shree Somnath Mahadev, is located in Prabhas Patan, Veraval, Guarat. It is believed to be the first among the 12 Jyotirlinga shrines of Shiva. The 7th existing temple build in the Kailas Mahameru Prasad Style.

Bhimashankar

Bhimashankar is an ancient shrine situated in Sahyadri Hills of Maharashtra. It was originated from the river Bhima which evaporated due to war between Lord Shiva and demon Tripurasura.

Kedarnath

Located in Garhwal himalayan range near Mandakini river, in the state of Uttarakhand. The temple was originally build in the 8th Century by Adi Shankarcharya & earlier by Pandavas.

Kashi Vishwanath

One of the most famous temple in Varanasi, also known as the Golden temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. It was constructed in the year 1780 by the Maratah Monarch, Maharani Ahilyabai Holkar of Indore.
